Norman Oppenheimer (Richard Gere) lives a lonely life in the margins of New York City’s power and money—a would-be operator dreaming up financial schemes that never come to fruition. An opportunist with nothing real to offer, Norman comically strives to ingratiate himself at every turn, but his incessant networking leads him nowhere until he meets a charismatic Israeli politician (Lior Ashkenazi). Suddenly, Norman finds himself in the middle of a geopolitical drama beyond anything he could have ever imagined and everyone wants to be his friend. This screening is a Portland Jewish Film Festival event. The annual Portland Jewish Film Festival, screening June 11-25, 2017, is produced by the Northwest Film Center and co-presented with the Institute for Judaic Studies. In English and Hebrew with English subtitles.

The Northwest Film Center is a regional media arts organization offering a variety of exhibition, education programs, and artist services throughout the region. The Center presents a program of foreign, classic, experimental, and independent works year-round at the Whitsell Auditorium, located in the Portland Art Museum.
